It would be awesome if there was a way to set the app to only synch with Whoop band at specific times. Another recent post was all about phone battery consumption with 5.0 and MG bands and how bad is gotten. I use my bluetooth for other purposes throughout the day so turning it off isn’t an option but I really only check my Whoop a few times throughout the day, and would love to be able to conserve some phone battery.
I am 100% behind this but easiest way I see is allow us to close the app and upon opening quickly sync any missing data, just like all other devices I own. I have been discussing with Support since I see no reason for the app has to be active 24/7 and for me I like to leave my phone in another room when I sleep. With Whoops current situation it seems the requirement to be always connected wont allow me to do this without risk of losing data or extremely slow re-sync, not sure which because support are not exactly forthcoming with the actual reasons other than it must be always open.
Your Whoop will store up to (I believe) 30 days of data before it NEEDS to synch without losing that data. It may be slow to synch after being away from your phone for the night because it has 6-9, or more, hours of data to catch up on. Unless I misunderstood your issue, I think the app will currently do what you want. For me, I have my phone on me and bluetooth on most of the day, but I would lik there to be a way that Whoop isn’t constantly running in the background collecting data and draining my phone battery in that time.
Whoop have confirmed 14 days of data but still insist the app must be open or in background for it to sync properly. So as an experiment I closed the app for 2 hours, it took 10 mins to sync the data which is crazy for only 2 hours. 8 to 9hours could be 40 to 50 mins but I haven’t tested this over night because of the way support keep saying it needs to be connected at all times. They will not explain why but it could be that there is risk of lost data or the sync will take forever.
I wish they would explain but they don’t seem to want to other than it needs to be connected to show real time data. Why do I care about real time data when I am asleep.
I just get the feeling they are hiding something, no other device I have Garmin, Oura etc have this limitation.
If I am brave I might try one night to see what happens but right now I am trying to get to Healthspan and don’t want to lose a day
