No, WHOOP 5.0 and MG devices aren’t compatible with 4.0 bands.
5.0 and MG are smaller than 4.0 and as a result, we needed to update the fast link sliders to match their size. We also took that as an opportunity to make them easier to use and provide more security.
MG features ECG capabilities, which require specific conductive needs from our clasps. The MG clasps feature the ECG Indents which allow for that connectivity for a proper read
I just got a customized 4.0 band delivered all the way to India 
Is there any way to salvage it? For ex: if I’m using the giftkit option or a friend is signing on- is it any use for them? I was a little confused with the whole gisf kit option. My main concern is if the band could be of any use to any one in the near future or are all 4.0 bands now obsolete?
Hi divh! If you are using the gift kit option and a friend / family member is signing on to WHOOP using your 4.0, they can absolutely use the customized 4.0 band that you had delivered as it is still compatible with the 4.0 device. That’s a great way to keep the band in functioning use and out of the trash.
4.0 bands are and always will be compatible with 4.0 hardware, so they are not obsolete. They just don’t work with 5.0 / MG because of the reasons I outlined above in my previous note on this thread. Let me know of any questions and hope this is helpful.
Thanks for the prompt response. A quick follow up- if im singing up for 12 months for a friend/family member is there the option for the 4.0? or will they have to opt for a 5.0 device at that point?

That’s correct - the friend / family member can continue using the 4.0 with the 12 month membership. No need to upgrade to upgrade for a 5.0 / MG
If they want to upgrade to a 5.0 or mg, how much does cost?
@gaoruijie it would be $49 for Peak (5.0) or $79 for Life (MG). I’ve attached a screenshot below and also a link here with more information.
