Drop in HRV After Switching to WHOOP 5.0 and Wearing It on Wrist – Anyone Else?

Hi everyone,

I recently switched from WHOOP 4.0 (which I was wearing on my upper arm with the bicep band) to WHOOP 5.0 MG, which I’ve been wearing on my wrist since the change. Ever since the switch, I’ve noticed a consistent drop in my HRV and overall recovery scores – even though my sleep quality, strain, stress levels, and daily routines have remained basically the same.

Before the change, my HRV was significantly higher, and recovery data felt much more in sync with how I actually felt. Now, despite getting good sleep and not feeling overly stressed, my recovery scores are constantly low – seemingly just because my HRV has dropped.

Has anyone else experienced something similar after switching devices or changing where you wear your WHOOP?

Would love to hear if this might be a sensor or placement issue – or if there’s a way to recalibrate it somehow.

Thanks!

Same issue, I have had the whoop since 2020, wearing it on my wrist from day one, and I feel like this happens every time they release a new device, this time being the worse because my payment almost doubled and I feel the data is now way off. I even found a YouTube video showing the data from both 4.0 and 5.0 mg and they are not the same at all, which is very concerning.
I have low HRV, and low strain, yesterday I went out, carried heavy stuff from the grocery store and walked a good amount, and my strain was 4.0 :woman_facepalming:t2:. It’s simply insane. HRV has been lower as well. I should have kept my 4.0 and wear it at the same time.

Yes. Same issue. All my metrics dropped significantly without anything in my routines changing. HRV being the most dramatic. An over 50% drop since the day I made the switch. I’ve had the 5.0MG for just about a week now. Hoping it will start to balance out after another week of wearing. My other issue is the new bands are not as easy to swap. The pin holes in the side of the device seem to be off and getting the strap to attach when changing has not been as smooth as it was with the 4.0

Since my switch to Whoop MG I have the same issue with significantly lower HRV and therefore low recovery values. No changes in my daily routine though. Only change was switching from biceps to wrist positioning due to MG requirements. I am confused and disappointed.

This has been quite frustrating. As a test, I wore the WHOOP strap on my bicep for several nights, and interestingly, both my HRV and recovery scores significantly improved. However, once I moved it back to my wrist, the values dropped sharply again - despite the fact that I’ve been feeling absolutely fine physically. I’m honestly not sure what to make of this discrepancy.

Well it’s now been a few weeks and my HRV is still in the toilet with no changes in my habits. I’m tempted to switch back to the 4.0 just to see if it increases again.
