How does WHOOP ensure privacy within community teams?

I know teams can see certain metrics, but I want to be clear on what’s visible to others vs. what stays private. Are teammates able to see things like recovery, sleep, strain, HRV… or just aggregated scores? Can they dig into day-by-day breakdowns, or is it more high-level?

Great question! WHOOP takes privacy seriously, especially within community teams.

Here’s how it works:

  • What Metrics Are Shared: Teams can see Strain, Recovery, and Sleep metrics, but only the stats chosen by the team owner during setup. Metrics like HRV and RHR are visible only if they’re part of the Recovery data shared.

  • Level of Detail: Teammates can view daily, weekly, and monthly stats, including trends and averages. For example:

    • Strain: Includes Day Strain, activity strain, and calories burned.
    • Recovery: Shows Recovery score, HRV, and RHR.
    • Sleep: Displays Sleep Performance and total hours of sleep.
  • No Surprises: When you join a team, you can see exactly what data will be shared before accepting the invite. Your data remains private until you officially join.

  • Control Your Visibility: You can adjust your privacy settings in the app to prevent your profile from being searchable for team invites. If you prefer, teams can invite you via a unique code instead.

Hope this was helpful @sambenger!
