Or do I have to wait out the duration of my membership?
Yes! You’ll automatically have a WHOOP Peak membership but can upgrade to WHOOP 5.0 hardware anytime.
Just follow the upgrade flow in the app or on our website—since you purchased WHOOP within the last 30 days, your upgrade fee should be waived and you should be able to get the new device.
I bought my Whoop last week in Dubai but I live in Brazil - here, unfortunately, we still don’t support Whoop. How can I upgrade my hardware device?
Hi! I just did the upgrade to MG and had to pay about $80. I also bought the Whoop 4.0 last week with 1 year membership. Why did I have to pay $80 and my membership duration also got reduced. Can you check on this for me?
I am in India and bought via Flipkart last week, I am already loving it:)
how should I go about upgrading to the new hardware?
I purchased whoop 4.0 5 days back with a 1 year subscription. Now when I go into the upgrade page on the app, I only have 1 upgrade option, which is whoop life. When I click on the CTA to upgrade, it takes me to whoop 5.0 PEAK purchase page with a 12 months subscription fee. Which amount to 40,000 INR with import duty charges, shipping and my country Tax ( india ).
I should be eligible for a free upgrade, right ?
WHOOP ships to a variety of regions, but currently we do not support shipping to Brazil. If you are located in Brazil we are not able to fulfill your 5.0 order at this time.
You can upgrade to the 5.0 in app or on the WHOOP website. You can get the new hardware for free when you extend your membership.
It seems the upgrade police and rate is not good for old whoop 4.0 member. Could you have an plan about this?
I could have sworn when I signed up 2 years ago we were told that we’d get free hardware upgrades. Does anyone else recall ssomething like this??
no, I remember this as well and it was one of the selling points of this subscription model to me. I also dislike how I need to renew my subscription again to get the “free” upgrade even though I just renewed my subscription two months ago. it feels like new subscribers get a far better deal than existing ones.
Hi! I’ve been with whoop for more than a year now. I’ve renewed my subscription just this march. now while I’m excited about the 5.0, I feel like there’s a significant downside to being an existing subscriber. part of the appeal was that any hardware updates were part of the subscription, but now suddenly they aren’t. this should have been communicated prior to the last renewal and feels like a lack of transparency on whoops side.
Now that I also see the subscription prices in USD, I’m wondering why the euro prices are so much more expensive? Especially if I compare the pricing I can get on Amazon, which is different (and cheaper) again. The implementation of this new generation of hardware is seriously disadvantaging the previous subscribers. It almost feels like a punishment to have been a customer previously, as only new subscribers seem to get any sort of benefits.
I don’t see how paying an additional fee + shipping for something I expected to be part of the subscription (as this was how it was communicated) is an okay alternative for previous members.
Am I alone in thinking like this?
Hi all. I’ve included a link here to our post regarding Clarifying and Updating Our Upgrade Policy. I’ve also pinned that post to the top of the community page to help other members. Thank you again for the feedback. We appreciate it.
I’ve included the text from that post below:
Clarifying and Updating Our Upgrade Policy
We’re updating our upgrade eligibility to ensure it reflects both our values and your expectations. We heard your feedback, especially from those of you with more than 12 months remaining on your membership.
Starting today:
- If you have more than 12 months remaining, you’re eligible for a free upgrade to WHOOP 5.0 on Peak. This will be automatically applied when you go to check out.
- If you’ve already upgraded to WHOOP 5.0 on Peak and paid a one-time upgrade fee despite having more than 12 months remaining, we’ll refund that fee. You’ll be receiving a refund – stay tuned for an email.
How Upgrades Work
Your WHOOP membership has always included access to the latest hardware — at no additional cost — based on how much time you have remaining in your membership.
When we launched WHOOP 4.0 in 2021, most members were on monthly or 6-month plans. At the time, members with 6 months or more remaining were eligible for a free upgrade to WHOOP 4.0. Annual memberships were more expensive than they are today.
Today, we only offer 12- and 24-month memberships, and, as a result, the free upgrade eligibility to WHOOP 5.0 on One or Peak requires 12 months or more of membership remaining. If you have less than 12 months remaining, you can extend your membership to receive an upgrade at no additional cost – or pay a one-time upgrade fee to get the latest hardware without extending your membership. You can also choose to renew your subscription when it is up, and you’ll be eligible to upgrade to WHOOP 5.0 at that time for free.
Also, if you purchased or renewed a WHOOP 4.0 membership in the last 30 days before May 8, your upgrade fee will be automatically waived at checkout.
More Membership Choices
As you may have seen, this week we also introduced an additional and entirely new membership, WHOOP Life. This is our most premium option yet, offering medical-grade capabilities, only possible with our most advanced hardware, WHOOP MG.
You can upgrade to WHOOP Life in two ways:
- Upgrade to a 12-month WHOOP Life membership and receive WHOOP MG at no extra cost
- Or, pay a one-time upgrade fee to receive WHOOP MG and switch to WHOOP Life without extending your membership
You can see details for membership pricing in your region here and more on upgrade fees in your region here.
Correction on Our Blog
We also want to acknowledge that a previous blog article incorrectly stated that anyone who had been a member for just 6 months would receive a free upgrade. This was never our policy and should never have been posted. As noted above, our policy for upgrades from WHOOP 3.0 to WHOOP 4.0 was that members with 6 months or more remaining on their membership were eligible for a free upgrade to WHOOP 4.0. We removed that blog article when it came to our attention and updated WHOOP Coach with the proper information. We’re sorry for any confusion this may have caused.
Thank you for your feedback. We remain committed to delivering the best technology, experience, and value to our community.
I believe your corrections should also include the FAQ, interviews with Forbes, and statements made by leadership. Let’s be very clear, there is no confusion, just questionable backtracking on whoops side with a less than satisfactory response.
Thank you for trying, but this is rather disappointing.
So, What I needed to upgrade to a whoop mg life cost 79-49?
yeh, ironically my subscription just renewed 3 weeks ago. And then surprise ! You have to pay more to get the new model. Leaves a really bad taste in my mouth and I am about to cancel.
I cancelled. The thing that won me over initially was the free hardware upgrades. I do love it, but if I have to pay for upgrades (with shipping!!! this ticks me off so much) I cannot justify the subscription price. And if I can’t trust a company to stick to its word, why would I stick around? If you don’t honour your word, you don’t deserve my loyalty. So, I’m letting my sub run out for the 10 months I still have.
@fairviewdogs did you try reaching out to whoop support to see if you were eligible for a free upgrade? im pretty sure if you renewed within a certain time frame prior to the launch of 5.0 they have been granting free upgrades
