Whoop MG blood pressure setup needs another device

Trying to setup blood pressure on MG Life and app asks to put on blood pressure cuff for baseline reading. Picture shows an upper arm electronic blood pressure device. Why doesnt Whoop say in details or description of MG that you will need one of these units to use the blood pressure feature?

After experimenting and going through steps app asks for 3 readings from your blood pressure device. I guess you can have someone take your blood pressure and record the readings or use any other type of blood pressure device. It does not have to be necessarily the upper arm device shown in app demonstration.

You don’t need to own a blood pressure cuff to complete this step. You can get your baseline blood pressure reading in a few easy ways:

  • Visit your local pharmacy – many offer free blood pressure checks.
  • Ask a friend or family member to borrow their blood pressure cuff.
  • Visit your doctor or clinic for a quick reading.
  • Or, if you’d prefer to have one on hand, there are affordable blood pressure cuffs available online.

The good news is you only need to do this once during setup, just to help WHOOP calibrate your personalized blood pressure readings. After that, you’ll get daily blood pressure estimate directly from your wrist.

Was a little confused since the app shows the picture before proceeding with the calibration.

Thanks for clarifying.

Can it measure blood pressure on demand any time I want or it gives reading only once a day?

It gives you a reading once a day before you wake up. You could always enter a manual reading after initial setup and compare. I know this is still in beta but will see after a couple weeks or a month to really compare how its doing.

So only once a day. The option to measure blood pressure on demand whenever I want or feel need would be most beneficial to me. If you make that possible please let me know. Till then I’ll wait with my purchase.

In my experience its displayed once a day but it measures multiple times, I think during the night. It shows high and low for both Systolic and Diastolic. Then does and average. Hard to say how many times it takes a reading but looks like a fair few. In the morning I use my cuff to get an accurate reading and I would say it’s pretty close, if not spot on.

That’s ok but I would like an option as on Samsung watches to be able to measure my blood pressure whenever I want. I have Garmin fenix 8 and Apple watch ultra 2 so I get all the other vitality data from those two watches. The only thing they don’t have is blood pressure measurement option. So if Whoop implements the option to measure it on my demand than I’ll take it. Till then no.

Bear in mind this is still in beta. I would think once it’s been established as sound technology they will allow on demand. But I can see also why they wouldn’t since the BP is not a medical grade device like the ECG/EKG is. So nothing should ever replace a BP cuff and regular visits to the Doctor. I have a Garmin BP cuff I use for on demand measurements but do find my morning measurement does match up to the Whoop average.

Calibration via other blood pressure devices would be good info to push out to early and future MG purchasers so they don’t dumpster dive looking for a calibration device that was not included (it looked cool). We’d thought we’d missed it in the packaging materials and thrown it out accidentally. On peeling things apart, also found a small paper manual under the cardboard arrival case…hopefully nothing important in there.
