Wondering if Whoop or Watch is the right choice for me

I had whoop 2.0 and 3.0. I was doing mostly Crossfit at the time and I had a lot of problems with weightlifting being way off. I would get a strain of 8 or 9, but a 30 minute row would basically tell me I needed to recover for a month.

I painted a room and I maxed out the Strain after about 20 minutes of painting.

I am getting back into fitness. Crossfit, Boxing and I ride dirt bikes. I really liked the whoop graphs and data but always questioned how accurate it was.

Anyway, I am debating between getting a nice Garmin watch, but they seem to be more for running or cycling, but I do like the idea of seeing my HR and stuff in real time. Although I dont know why I would need that.

I noticed that people are having more accuracy wearing it on the bicep. Do you think you could pull off wearing it there all the time? Seems like it would be weird.

I am most interested in the health data, aging, etc. I am into my 50s now. Overweight, and trying to get back after it.

I don’t mind that 360 bucks for a year. Whoop was always 30 bucks a month before anyway, so its seems the same unless I am missing something.

As far as accuracy, I am ok with it being inaccurate as long as its consistent. I liken it to a scale that’s off by 5 lbs. Its ok that its off if its always off by the same amount.

Sorry for the stream of consciousness type questions, but not sure where to go here. Any thoughts or suggestions, please let me know.

I do not think any one device is accurate, they all have their flaws. Whoop seems ok but for me as cyclist it misses the spot. But I do have the MG so ECG & BP monitoring is worth it on it’s own. That said I also have a Garmin watch and an Oura Ring. I like to check across all platforms for a more balanced fitness/health view. So personally to answer you question, I think you need both

As for weight loss, I too was struggling a bit back in 2020, not excessive, maybe 30 lbs on my 6’3" frame. I tried NOOM and was pleasantly surprised. Think it cost me $110 to drop the 30 lbs. It happened very quickly and everything I learned has kept me at 22BMI since then. I also dropped BP Meds.

Good luck with your watch/whoop decision.
