Daily Step Count

Hi - my step counts seems to be way off - I mean really off - I use Strava - I monitor walks - and I take about 1000 steps per km - 1600 in a mile - yesterday I did a walk about of about 5 kilometers - with a report of 4968 steps - about right - but daily total was 18720 - the only problem with that was that i spent most of the day driving. This example is is now a trend - and most days are really off?
Anyone suggest a remedy - solution - or do I just ignore the daily step count?
Clearly the next thought is ‘if this is wrong what else is wrong’?

Thanks for reaching out. When driving, there is in fact a lot of very small movement coming from the wrist. This movement of the WHOOP strap can sometimes be misinterpreted as a step.

WHOOP has made improvements to the 5.0 and MG hardware and step counting algorithm, so WHOOP can now more accurately estimate your step count for those devices.

Yes but I havent received a new device yes and I’m paying 40 euro for the subscription. For that amount of money I expect superior service and features, but when whoop shows that I made 1400 steps a day when my real step count was around 6000 which is real because I know how much I move and I can differentiate what is realistic, it’s not what I expect for 40 euro a months. Answer that new devices are better is not an answer. Why is Whoop step count so horrible?

Sorry this screenshot

Thank you for the feedback. Steps on WHOOP 4.0 is still a BETA feature, so we acknowledge that there are instances in which the daily Steps estimate may not align with the perceived number of steps through the day.

We are researching improvements to make our daily step count estimate more accurate on WHOOP 4.0.

I had the same question: my Whoop steps show a significant increase (more than 2x) over what I believe is reality as my Apple Watch suggests. I wear both 24/7. A “new hardware” suggested is not a solution. Counting steps was solved decades ago. Is this really a big problem for Whoop?
