Sleep Insights from Journal

I’d like to propose that Whoop introduces “Sleep Insights” calculated from our journal entries, particularly now that sleep performance has been reworked. The journal is one of the things I love about Whoop and the ability to experiment and see results what keeps me using the platform. However for long term users you can easily settle into a routine. making it harder to identify new areas for improvement - added journal features like this could revitalise that engagement.

Of the variables that are considered in sleep performance, I expect that sleep efficiency and sleep stages are the most sensitive metrics to our behaviours - such as meal timing, alcohol/caffeine intake, sleep masks and ear plugs.

Whilst Whoop already provides recovery insights covering these behaviours, recovery is a more complex metric, heavily influenced by cardio data. A sleep insights feature could help users isolate sleep quality and the behaviours that impact it.

This addition would also support Whoop’s pivot from a fitness tracker to a health monitor, offering value to users seeking healthy change rather than peak athleticism.

Thank you for sharing this thoughtful and well-articulated suggestion — it’s a really interesting idea and one that could provide a lot of value to members like yourself who are invested in understanding and optimizing their sleep.

We absolutely agree that the journal is a powerful tool for experimentation and behavior change, and the idea of drawing more direct connections between specific behaviors and sleep outcomes like efficiency or time in various stages is compelling. As you noted, recovery combines many different factors and can sometimes make it harder to isolate the effects of individual behaviors — so a more targeted lens on sleep itself could unlock deeper insights.

This is actually something we’ve considered, and it’s great to hear that it could also resonate with members! Enhancing our ability to support healthy behavior change — especially as WHOOP continues to evolve into a broader health monitor — is top of mind for us, and ideas like yours help shape that direction.

Thanks again for taking the time to post!
